How long does it take to rank up in LoL
The real answer fits in a simple formula and one variable you control. Here is the math, an honest example, and our estimated durations per route.

The base math
A division is 100 LP. A tier has four of them, from IV to I. To climb a whole tier, you therefore need to cross 400 LP, plus the LP you are missing in your current division.
Every game, you gain or lose a certain number of LP, which depends on your MMR. The time it takes to climb thus depends on three things: the LP to cross, your gains and losses per game, and your share of wins. The first two are known. The third is you.
A worked example in solo
Take a simple case, with symmetric gains: +20 per win, -20 per loss. To cross a 100 LP division, you need five more wins than losses. Not five wins: five net wins.
If you win six games out of ten, you move forward by two net wins per ten games, that is 40 LP. One division then takes you twenty-five games. If you win seven out of ten, that is four net wins per ten games, 80 LP, and one division in twelve or thirteen games. If you win five out of ten, you do not move, however many games you play.
This math shows why volume is not enough. Going from six to seven wins out of ten halves the time. Going from ten to twenty games a week at five wins out of ten changes nothing.
- +20 / -20: five net wins per division.
- Six wins out of ten: about twenty-five games per division.
- Seven wins out of ten: about twelve games per division.
- Five out of ten: no progress.
What changes this math
Your gains are not always symmetric. If your MMR is above your rank, you gain more than you lose, and each net win is worth more. If it is below, it is the other way around, and the same number of wins moves you less. Our guide on LP and MMR explains why.
Tiers also change how long games last. A game in Diamond usually lasts longer and is decided later than a game in Iron, where gaps open fast. The same number of games therefore does not take the same time depending on your tier.
What speeds things up
You do not control MMR directly, but you control your share of wins. And it rises with three simple habits, which the guide on the method details.
- Play focused, rested, and stop after two losses in a row.
- One role, to build reflexes instead of starting from scratch.
- Two champions, to think about the game rather than your keys.
The estimated durations of our routes
For a boost, the time no longer depends on your share of wins but on our Master players'. Our grid carries an estimated time per division, which grows with the tier. Iron IV to Gold IV: about 3 days. Silver IV to Gold IV: about 1 day. Gold IV to Platinum IV: about 1 day.
These are estimates drawn from the grid, not commitments. The real time depends on how the games go, and in duo on your shared time slots, since you play every game yourself. You follow progress live on your order page.
Getting help
If the solo math gives you a timeline you do not like, two options. Duo: you play your games with a Master player on your account, your share of wins rises because your teammate is better, and you improve along the way. Boost: a Master player plays on your account until the target rank, knowing that this practice goes against Riot's rules, as our terms of sale state.
In both cases, the price is shown before you pay and does not move afterwards. Your call, depending on your time and on what you want to keep from the experience.
Questions
How many games to climb one division?
It depends on your gains per game and your share of wins. At +20 and -20, you need five net wins: twenty-five games at six wins out of ten, about a dozen at seven out of ten. At five out of ten, you do not move.
Why do my friends climb faster than me?
Either their share of wins is higher, or their MMR is above their rank and their gains per win are bigger. Both are fixed the same way: by winning, over time.
How long does a boost take?
Our grid gives an estimate per route, for example about 1 day for Silver IV to Gold IV. The real time depends on how the games go. You follow every game on your order page.
