Smurf account in LoL: what it is for and what to check before buying

What a smurf is

A smurf is a second account, separate from your main one. The word comes from player slang: an experienced player on a fresh account, playing against opponents ranked below his real level. By extension, any secondary account is called a smurf.

A smurf can be an account you level yourself from level 1, or an account already at level 30, ready for ranked, that you buy. This guide is mostly about the second case.

Why get one

The reasons are almost always the same. Playing with friends whose rank is too far from yours for the duo or flex queue. Learning a new role without putting your main account's rank on the line. Or starting over, with a fresh MMR, when your main account carries a history you no longer want to drag along.

There is also the simple pleasure of playing relaxed. On a smurf, a loss costs nothing to your main rank. Many players use one to try champions they would never dare to pick in ranked on their main account.

• Learning another role or other champions without risk to your main rank.
• Starting over with a fresh MMR.

What to check before buying

An account sells on a few characteristics. Before paying, make sure the listing gives all of them, and that they match what you want to do with it.

• The level. Ranked requires level 30 and a minimum number of owned champions. An account below level 30 is not ready for ranked.
• Blue essence and champions. Blue essence buys champions. The more there is, the more choice you have from the start.
• The server. An EUW account does not play on EUNE. Check that the server is your friends' server.
• The rank. Unranked, or already placed at a given rank. An unranked account lets your MMR build on your own games.
• A changeable email address. You must be able to set your own email and password at first login. Without that, the account is not really yours.
• Delivery. When and how you receive the credentials, and for how long you can read them again.

How it works with us

Our catalogue lists the available accounts, filterable by server and rank. Each account has its listing: server, rank, level, number of champions, number of skins, blue essence, description and screenshots. The price is written on the listing, with nothing added.

When you start the purchase, the account is reserved for you for thirty minutes, the time to pay by card or PayPal. Nobody else can buy it during that window. As soon as payment is confirmed, the credentials appear on your order page. They stay readable there for thirty days, then are erased from our servers.

Change the password and the email address at your first login. And if no account in the catalogue suits you, you can describe what you are looking for: we reply with a quote you are free to accept or not.

What Riot's rules say

Riot Games' terms of use forbid selling and buying accounts. A purchased account can therefore be sanctioned if Riot identifies it as such. That is a real risk, and we would rather tell you before you pay than after.

Our terms of sale say so, and state that the sale of an account is final as soon as its credentials have been viewed from your order page. Read them before buying. The choice is yours.
